Jon Gruden reportedly cut Marquette King over personality, not punting

That’s when Taylor and Dedmon took over.

Taylor tied it 103-all with a layup and, after Monroe made one of two free throws, Dedmon made a 3-pointer to give Atlanta its first lead since the score was 3-2. Jonathan Gibson made a 20-footer for Boston, then Dedmon’s dunk gave the Hawks the lead for good. Taylor followed with a layup to make it a four-point game with 26 seconds left.

Davis, 24, was taken into police custody and booked on making “criminal threats.” He was later released and has a May 3 court date, online records show.

The Packers released a statement saying they were aware of the situation.

“We are in the process of gathering more information and will refrain from making any further comment as it is an ongoing legal matter,” the statement read in part.

Davis, a fifth-round selection by the Packers in the 2016 NFL Draft, finished last season with five receptions for 70 yards and no touchdowns.

“It’s frustrating, it’s embarrassing,” he said. “I’m in the big leagues and I can’t throw strikes to anybody.”

Rays: CF Kevin Kiermaier was out of the lineup because he was sick.

“It actually wasn’t a difficult decision because he was injured, but it was difficult to go ahead and go through with it, because he’s been with us all season long and we love Omri and what he brought to the team. A great teammate,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Sunday. “It was difficult to sit with him and tell him we were going to do this, but it’s the only decision we could make under the circumstances and we have to have Quinn for the playoffs and we couldn’t release everybody else.

“Everybody else is healthy and playing or under contract or team control for next year, in Patrick [McCaw’s] case. So this was the decision we had to come to. It wasn’t fun, but the main thing is that Omri is a pro and a great teammate. He handled everything beautifully last night.”

Casspi appeared in 53 games this season, starting seven, averaging 14 minutes of playing time, 5.7 points and 3.8 rebounds. He signed a one-year, veterans minimum contract with the Warriors last offseason.

Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly recovering after 12-hour surgery to remove oral cancer

Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly underwent a successful 12-hour surgery Wednesday in New York City to remove oral cancer and reconstruct the former Bill’s upper jaw.

We successfully removed Mr. Kelly’s cancer from his upper jaw and lymph nodes from his neck, Dr. Mark Urken, head and neck surgeon at Mount Sinai West, said in a statement to ESPN. We then reconstructed his upper jaw. Mr. Kelly is resting comfortably post-operatively.

Earlier this month, Kelly announced that his cancer had returned. He’s now been treated for cancer three times. Kelly had surgery in 2013 to remove oral cancer, then underwent chemotherapy in 2014 when cancer was discovered in his sinuses.

He made plays that I’ve never seen before, Hughes says. A great story, sure. But an NFL player He originally wasn’t invited to the Combine. He said he was disappointed and he posted about it on social media. Then there was an avalanche of anger from supporters. Why wasn’t he given a chance I had an entire nation behind me, Griffin says. He really did. He got his invite late and he wrested all the headlines from the bumper crop of quarterbacks present.

The answer there is an unequivocal yep. Reid, by the way, is about to enter his 20th season as a head coach. He’s done that without ever taking so much as a season off; 14 years in Philadelphia then a jump to Kansas City for the last five seasons and counting. That came after seven years as an offensive assistant under Mike Holmgren in Green Bay. Yeah, he’s a lifer.

And while we’re on the subject of Super Bowl rings, Reid did get one with the Packers, but he’s still looking for that first elusive ring as a head coach. I asked him in Orlando if he’d give up a pinky toe if it meant a guaranteed Super Bowl victory in the next seven years. He did not hesitate in his answer.

Right now.

Just five months after signing Alec Ogletree to a lucrative new contract extension, the Rams turned around and traded the star linebacker to the Giants.

What did Los Angeles’ brass see down the stretch last season that inspired the sudden about-face

Report: Multiple teams’intrigued’ by Manziel

It appears Johnny Manziel is in fact garnering interest among NFL teams. A source told Yahoo Sports’ Jordan Schultz that multiple clubs remain intrigued with the idea of signing the former Cleveland Browns quarterback. Manziel has been out of the league since the 2016 offseason due to various off-field issues, but is determined to reshape his image and continue his career. He showcased his skills twice this month, throwing at both San Diego’s and Texas A&M’s pro days.

Kelly’s cancer from his upper jaw and lymph nodes from his neck, Dr. Mark Urken, head and neck surgeon at Mount Sinai West, said in a statement, via ESPN. We then reconstructed his upper jaw. Mr. Kelly is resting comfortably post-operatively. In an Instagram post, Kelly’s wife, Jill, thanked the doctors and nurses and noted that her husband is entering a very significant time of recovery.

We are certainly aware quarterback deals have evolved since then. We know that at the right time we will have to evolve as well. We don’t think this is the time right now. What we are going to focus on right now is building the best team for 2018 we possibly can, said Bengals vice president Troy Blackburn, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.

Dalton signed a six-year, $96-million extension with the Bengals in advance of the 2014 season, a lofty contract at the time for a 26-year-old who had gone 30-18 in the regular season but 0-3 in the playoffs through his first three campaigns. But the contract now pales in comparison to Dalton’s peers; he ranks as the 21st highest-paid quarterback in terms of annual average, according to Spotrac. We didn’t sign the Andy Dalton deal because we thought it was a good deal. At the time, it was an expensive deal. It was a heavy lift, said Blackburn. We did it because Andy was a winning starting quarterback in the National Football League, he had demonstrated that.

Jon Gruden last coached in the NFL in 2008, and hasn’t been on the Raiders ‘ sideline since 2001.

A lot has changed in the decade since Gruden was a coach; offenses are more pass-happy and as a consequence, defenses are more reliant on subpackages. And perhaps one of the biggest differences between now and then is the advancement in analytics. But Gruden made it clear when speaking with reporters at the NFL combine last week that he isn’t a big fan of statistical analysis.

“I’m trying to throw the game back to 1998,” Gruden told reporters бн “I’m not going to rely on modern technology. I will certainly have some people that are professional that can help me from that regard.

“There is some truth to what [Gruden’s] saying,” Pro Football Focus’ Steve Palazzo told ” Good Morning Football ” on Thursday. “There’s a lot of data some teams aren’t necessarily tapping into but PFF works with 30 out of 32 teams — I think it’s soon to be 32 — there are varying levels of using all that information [but] they’re all using it at a point where it’s going to help them in their game-planning, it’s going to help them in specific areas…. The biggest takeaway — and I was at the combine last week and I’ve worked with all 32 teams — they’re all at different levels. So they’re all using it to a point, maybe even including Jon.”

DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills figure to see an uptick in targets, but it may not be overly significant when you consider that both were already full-time players last season. The Dolphins had a third wideout on the field for 87 percent of their pass plays, which trailed only the Rams (92 percent) for highest in the league. Of course, a slight to moderate boost of targets, coupled with the return of Ryan Tannehill, is enough to get Parker and Stills into the WR3 discussion. Both can safely be considered flex plays, but there’s room for more.

Jakeem Grant, meanwhile, currently sits third on the WR depth chart and would slide into Landry’s slot gig, at least as the roster stands. It’s reasonable to expect an addition — and potentially a significant one — over the next two months. Leonte Carroo, Isaiah Ford and Rashawn Scott are also in the mix, but are no more than deep dynasty sleepers.

Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners finalize ‘homecoming’ deal

Ichiro Suzuki is heading back to Seattle, the Mariners confirmed Wednesday.

The problem for the 23-year-old player lies in faulty mechanics and a lack of exposure to good MLB curveballs. Not breaking pitches, but curveballs specifically. The weapon of choice in Japan is the split-fingered fastball which is essentially a change-up, albeit one with much sharper movement.

“He’s basically like a high school hitter because he’s never seen a good curveball,” one scout told Yahoo. “He’s seen fastballs and changeups. And you’re asking a high school hitter to jump to the major leagues?”

What exacerbates the problem for Ohtani, though, is he has to cheat on inside fastballs. He has to get started early to turn on the pitch, and the issue with that is it leaves him susceptible to curveballs, especially from left-handers as was shown in his strikeout against Clayton Kershaw earlier this week.

The video , which was shared on Snapchat by French model Laura Cuenca, shows Beckham in a hotel room bed with a box of pizza and what appears to be a brown cigarette in his hand. In the video, which is seven seconds long, Cuenca is shown briefly with a credit card in her hand and lines of a powdery white substance in front of her.

Beckham is currently in Europe for a Nike-sponsored trip. He tweeted something after the video went viral that appears to address it.

Another candidate has emerged to buy the Panthers.

Michael Rubin, the owner of Fanatics apparel, is “a serious bidder” to become the new owner of the NFL franchise, ESPN reported .

Rubin did not comment on the situation when asked by ESPN.

NBA trade rumors: Knicks shopping disgruntled Joakim Noah

The Knicks are “exploring avenues” to trade center Joakim Noah, Yahoo reported Monday.

Sources: After heated verbal exchange in practice between Joakim Noah and coach Jeff Hornacek last week, the Knicks are exploring avenues to part with Noah. He has two years remaining on the four-year, $72M deal he signed in 2016.

Draft settings: When choosing a draft date and time, it’s extremely important to make sure all of your managers are able to attend the draft in person or online so that you can avoid autodrafting. Our system will make autodraft picks for any managers not in attendance for a live online draft, which helps fill the void, but the human element is part of drafting, and absentee managers can have a negative effect on the fairness of the league. In other words: Don’t be that guy/gal who forgets your draft is going on.

Griffin, 28, is averaging 22.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game this season. Griffin had signed a five-year, 171 million deal this offseason, and is set to make over $31 million a year from 2018-19 to 2021-22.

The trade could also mean more minutes for rookie Luke Kennard. The Pistons selected the former Duke star in the first round of last year’s NBA Draft, but he has found playing time hard to come by this season.

Her life is now an escalating series of surreal moments.

Less that two weeks ago, Maddie Rooney won a gold medal. “Lately I’ve been wearing it 24/7 during this media tour, but I don’t know why any of us would want to take them off. It’s the best feeling,” she says.

Joey Bosa has surgery to repair finger injury suffered in rookie year

The Los Angeles Chargers confirmed Thursday that defensive end Joey Bosa had surgery to repair a dislocated finger on his right hand.

Bosa suffered the injury during his rookie season in his fourth game back from a hamstring injury, a Thursday night contest at Qualcomm Stadium against the Denver Broncos.

It has taken some time, but it looks like Raanta is finally showing why many were high on him coming into his role as a starter in the desert. He leads all goaltenders on the ESPN Player Rater for fantasy value during the past 30 days and has been lights-out since Jan. 1 (.937 save percentage in 15 games).

It looks like Jones has finally successfully fended off the challenge from Aaron Dell to his role as primary starter for the Sharks. Struggling through some bad goaltending and injuries, Jones had a really nasty December and January. But so far through February, Jones has posted a 2.00 goals-against average and .932 save percentage that is indicative of a workhorse starter. Even better, his only relief from Dell during the past seven games came as part of a back-to-back set.

So look for the comparisons to continue to gain momentum if Jackson runs a sub-4.4 and spins the ball the way he’s capable of during throwing drills. The way Jackson performs on the whiteboard and interviews with teams will have a bigger impact on his draft stock than his workout — as is the case with any quarterback — but that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t enjoy the show he puts on during tests and drills.

Kimes: Bridgewater. The Vikings have enough cap space to make a run at Cousins, but I think they’ll back off when his price tag reaches uncharted territory; Cousins is better than Keenum and Bridgewater, but he’s not that much better. It’s hard to forecast when Bridgewater will take Keenum’s job (I expect the team to keep both quarterbacks), but I still think Bridgewater is Minnesota’s long-term plan.

Graziano: Bridgewater. My projected scenario is one in which the Vikings bring back Keenum and Bridgewater, and Bridgewater eventually takes the job away from Keenum — either in a training camp competition or after Keenum struggles during the regular season.

Someone tricked a reporter into thinking Tom Brady would hold out this offseason

You may have heard that Tom Brady is expected to hold out this offseason unless he gets a contract that’s similar to the $137.5 million one Jimmy Garoppolo signed with the 49ers on Thursday. That’s probably not going to happen because those rumors are the result of a giant hoax.

What happened? The report came from Ron Borges of the Boston Herald. Borges received a text message from someone claiming to be Don Yee, Brady’s agent. The text said that Brady “is prepared to sit out all offseason activity” unless he got a new deal similar to the structure and scope of Garoppolo’s.

On Friday afternoon, the Herald released a statement on this situation:

A column by Ron Borges in today’s Herald regarding Patriot Tom Brady’s salary discussions was based on information which proved to be false.

The Herald apologizes to Brady, his agent Don Yee and the Patriots, and to our readers for this erroneous report.

Borges’ column has been suspended pending further review.

“Yeah, let’s do it,” Pederson tells his QB after about one second of thinking.

Foles goes into his huddle and makes the call: “Philly special. Ready?”

Then the Eagles do it, and the result is a complete conning of the Patriots’ defense that extended Philadelphia’s lead to 10 points at halftime.

Pederson and Foles both said after the game that they had been working on that play for a couple of weeks, waiting for the exact right time to go to it in a game. That time came.

Adams has since responded to Carruth’s letter and interview, telling the The Charlotte Observer that she has forgiven him but that he will never have custody of Chancellor.

“Chancellor will be raised either by me or, after I’m gone, by someone else who loves him and who knows him,” she said. “He will never be raised by a stranger — someone he doesn’t know and who tried to kill him.”

Chiefs lineman wants to add ‘M.D.’ to jersey after completing medical school

When Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif completes medical school in May, he may have the coolest M.D. business card ever — his jersey.

Duvernay-Tardif told the Kansas City Star he wants his jersey nameplate to read Duvernay-Tardif M.D. once he completes his seven-year journey through medical school with one final exam this spring.

I’ve already started a conversation with the league office, and they say that anything is possible, Duvernay-Tardif said.

Foster is just that for Lynch and the 49ers, who have taken a hard stand against domestic violence since the Ray McDonald issues a few years ago.

Last season, Brees threw for 4,334 yards while completing 72.0 percent of his passes. He also threw 23 touchdown passes with just eight interceptions while leading the Saints one freak play away from the NFC championship game.

With Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara already on board, the Saints’ second order of business will likely focus around acquiring more weapons for Brees once they get him signed.

After the game, reporters asked Talbot for his thoughts on the challenge, and the goaltender did not pull any punches about his feelings for the league’s goaltender interference rule.

The Oilers have been burned by goaltender interference calls before, as captain Connor McDavid was flagged for interference in overtime on a play that looked legal by all standards. Maroon’s call was a bit more gray than McDavid’s, but that is very much the reason Talbot has voiced his complaints. The NHL’s goaltender interference rule has been a thorn in the league’s side all season, as the league seemingly has no idea how to call this rule on a consistent basis every night.

Hurney, a candidate for the Panthers’ permanent GM role, was placed on paid administrative leave earlier this month after his ex-wife, Jeanne Hurney, filed a complaint of harassment against him. Jeanne Hurney withdrew that complaint after a judge found no evidence of domestic violence in denying a temporary restraining order against her ex-husband.

How the decision to change the NBA All-Star Game format happened

The 2018 NBA All-Star Game was under a much different structure than its previous editions, and it was awesome. Teams captained by LeBron James and Stephen Curry will took court with rosters the two drafted three weeks ago. In previous years, teams were divided by the Eastern and Western Conference, but the league opted to spice things up this season.

Players, media, and fans voted for the All-Star starters. Fans’ votes were weighted most, compiling 50 percent of the total points, and media and player votes accounted for 25 percent each. The 10 starters chosen this year were James, Curry, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, James Harden, and Kevin Durant.

The remaining 14 players were chosen by a coach’s vote, picking seven players from each conference. Those players are Russell Westbrook, Karl-Anthony Towns, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Kristaps Porzingis, Kevin Love, Victor Oladipo, Kyle Lowry, Al Horford, John Wall, Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Jimmy Butler.

James and Curry received the most votes overall, and were named captains. From there, they alternated picks starting with James (the leading vote-getter) to each select four of the eight remaining starters. (Steph Curry had first selection over jerseys.) There were no limitations regarding conference, and each athlete was free to select whoever he thought would make the best teammate.

Wind has wreaked havoc on the 2018 Winter Olympics’ skiing and snowboarding events, forcing postponements and nearly ruining the women’s slopestyle snowboarding finals. On Sunday, unseasonable winds could make one of the sport’s most electrifying disciplines even more dangerous.

The women’s big air event will kick off Sunday evening with a qualifying round that will determine Thursday’s final. Fortunately for Sunday’s competitors, the winds that affected Phoenix Snow Park haven’t been nearly as brutal at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre, where massive jumps will push the world’s best boarders to their limits in the quest for Olympic gold.

The massive ramps and pressure of the world’s biggest stage should unlock some extra twists and flips at Alpensia. American Jamie Anderson can follow up her gold medal performance in the slopestyle competition with another trip to the podium. Her teammate, Julia Marino, will compete knowing Sunday’s runs are about more than just determining 2018’s best.
